No straight roads a relatively unknown game by Metronomiks in which Rock music is central. And by rock music we mean really epic brutal rock music. We have really become addicted to it.
The story The story takes place in Vinyl City, a place where Rock music is banned and seen as the great evil. The movement behind this is NSR, they have replaced all rock music with EDM music. This under the motto that EDM generates more energy with which the city can be supplied with electricity. However, main characters Mayday and Zuke are rock mad and disagree with NSR for banning all rock music. They want to oppose this and by means of a national audition they want to secretly play rock music on live TV and wake everyone up. Of course, this turns out very differently than expected. Tatiana the boss of NSR finds out and sends her troops off on Mayday and Zuke. Mayday and Zuke take on the DJ SUB, Sayu, Eve, Yinu, before finally joining Tatiana. The great thing about every boss is that every boss has his own very cool brutal music.
The gameplay No Straight roads plays like a platform action beat 'm up game. Where you have to beat opponents with your guitar or with your musical notes. It is important that you avoid projectiles well and learn a good pattern from your opponents. This is especially important with boss fights, and especially at higher difficulty levels. The more enemies you defeat, the more skills you unlock with which you can do cooler moves again. You have multiple special moves and three team specials. The team specials mean that you heal each other, a special where your opponent hits, and 1 that is a combination of heal and attack. All moves look very slick and this also applies to the animations.
The animations and music No straight roads has a really nice style for the animations. Kind of Anime-like cutscenes that really tell a very nice story and deserve its own TV series. The animations usually tell a very nice story and give more background information about certain opponents, especially about Eve, and how she had a relationship with Zuke. But the absolute showpiece of No straight roads is the music. They have really put in unprecedented good music. Music that stirs you up in the DJ robo fight. Music that makes you sentimental in the Yuni fight. And the great thing is that there are secret music tracks, which you have to unlock by playing at higher difficulty levels. Especially the EDM music tracks are really recommended.
The conclusion No straight roads is an unexpectedly fun game. We were not aware of this game but are extremely happy that we picked it up. The animations, the world, the music, it's all made so much fun. There are so many little details that you might not even notice. But those kinds of little things really make it a great game for us. There are bugs that unfortunately sometimes make the gaming fun less. But nevertheless the game gets a 9 from us.
