The Last of Us Part 2 Review

June 19th, 2020

The last of us 2 didn't get off to a good start due to many leaks. An important part of the story was leaked before release. And something that probably should have come as a big shock to gamers while playing, had unfortunately already been made public. I'm talking about Joel's death, of course. The hero from the previous game.

The Gameplay The gameplay is similar to the previous part. You have again the usual weapons that were also in part 1. Only this time you also have an automated machine gun that also has a silencer on it. So if you want to shoot down hordes of zombies without warning the rest, this is your weapon. Furthermore, more animations have been assigned to Ellie and Abby, so you can now not only crawl but also move forward while lying down. This is useful if you want to pass undetected through fields of tall grass. The animations are great and unprecedentedly full of violence. Heads that explode, axes being hammered into each other's backs, heads being smashed to pieces. The creators have clearly spent a lot of time on the animations.TLO 2

The story TLOU2 is known for its story. Ellie and Joel were introduced in the previous part and everyone wants to know how they will turn out. Most of the fans have become attached to Joel, who has taken on some sort of father role. Ellie has grown from a little girl to an adult girl with a pristine mind of her own. That is why it is so hurtful and actually incomprehensible why naughty dog fan favorite Joel writes out of the story so quickly. Joel is killed by Abby with a golf club. What makes it even more shocking is that you then have to play much of the game with Joel's killer. Something that evokes a lot of bad blood for many and causes misunderstanding. TLO 3

The conclusion The last of us 2 had everything it needed to become a masterpiece. The previous part had laid the foundation and now all it took was the house to be finished and furnished and it would be a masterpiece. However, Naughty dog has taken a big risk with the story and unfortunately this has gone wrong. Killing Joel and introducing a new character to Abby doesn't work and causes irritation. It doesn't feel right to play with her and you also wish every moment that Abby dies over and over again. Because of this mega blunder from Naughty Dog, The Last Of Us 2 only gets a 7.5 as a mark. If the story had been better, it really would have been a 9.5 or even a 10, because the graphics are sublime, the gameplay is delicious, smooth, entertaining, and extremely explicit. TLO 4
